The Race

By Ryan Denman

I am on the line when I hear a gun.

I push off the line, I run run and I run.

I start off behind them all,

But soon behind me they will fall.

One person, two person, three person, four

This is a small amount, it is soon to be more

In third, now second, now tied for first,

I soon will quench my long time thirst.

This thirst is for victory and I see it at last.

It is so close, if only this last person I can pass.

Now my big moment has finally come

I rush past the person, he wondered where I was from.

It is my time for glory it is all mine.

I let out a sigh of relief as I rush past the line.]

I am very happy to do this for it is not only for me,

But for my team, school, and town yes it is for we.

The Game By Emma Stephens

We raced across the dark, black lot

And ran until we thought we should stop

Yet, knowing if we took a break

She'd find us and we'd have to run

Faster, faster than ever before

We saw her come around the bend

"Run!" i yelled, and sprinted away

Through the dark and narrow street

hiding behind a bush, a tree

Finally we found a place

Where we could stpo and take a break

we jumped into the old blue car

that smelld of vanilla candles

"is she gone?" I asked the two

"I think we lost her" came the reply

"But keep a look out just in case."

We stayed in there for quite some time

the excitment and fear felt in the air

we ducked each time we thought we heard

the footsteps of our fear, her.

We finally left that vanilla smelling car

and raced intot he pitch balck building

we always thought we heard her come

but, false alarm, it's nothing more

than just the building all around

She finally comes into the room

I see her, scream, then run away

my friends in front, so far away

look back and call "Go the other way!"

She follows me into different rooms

I finally come to the lighted one.

The safe spot as everyone calls it

"If found, come here as fast as you can"

they said in the beginning

I ran towards the door

and met my friends

"We totally won!" we all yelled

How fun that game of hide-n-seek was.

The Woods

By Emilija Stojanovic

Two friends walking through the woods,

 On a cool summer night.

The moonlight lighting the path,

and the stars catching their eyes.

All of the sudden they hear a crackle in the bushes.

Fear is rushing through their veins.

They turn to face what's out there.

But nothing is in their sight.

They turn around deciding to leave the creepy forest,

but the trail they left is no where to be found.

The stars begin to fade and the darkness surrounds them.

The wind blowing all around.

They begin to panic,

for nothing looks real,

All of the sudden they feel a cool wind,

making the hair on their arms stand up.

Puzzled, they continue walking trying to find their way home.

The feel a foreign presence around them,

they begin to scream and run,

but everything looks the same.

Soon they begin hearing faint voices,

calling their names.

The voices aren't familiar,

They're spooky and monotonous.

They start running,

only to be halted to a complete stop,

by something unrecognizable.

A dark, tall alien figure.

They turn around and run,

for this was a life or death situation.

Their lives begin to flash in front of them,

and finally, at the end of it all, they see a blinding light.

Long Way Comin', Further To Go

By Cooper Ehlers

I told myself that i was committed,

And I knew that i was,

I ran off from my home to the pier just beacuse,

Thirteen miles lay ahead of me,

The ocean breeze licks at my face,

I hope I make it,

And I understand its not a race,

All the way I have gone,

Now to make it back,

The hardest part is yet to come,

But I am undaunted,

Inland come nearer and ocean breezes fade,

Home is where I stand,

But its not unlikely for thing to change.

True Love

By Nicole Bartels

There once was a girl named Isabella.

Some say she resembled Cinderella.

She lived in a beautiful castle,

in the middle of the town of St. Tassel.

Isabella had many belongings,

but even more longings.

She was not very materialistic,

Isabella was actually quite simplistic.

All Isabella wanted was to find true love,

But instead her dad just bought her a really expensive dove.

She wanted to marry her own Prince Charming,

but her father found this very alarming.

One day while Isabella was walking around town,

she looked into a store window at a beautiful gown.

A good looking boy passed by.

He stopped and introduced himself, then said "Hi".

They started talking and soon fell in love,

it was love at first sight, nothing either one could speak of.

That night they ran away,

all the way down to the North Bay.

He asked her to marry him and she said "I do".

Isabella's father didn't even have a clue.

All that mattered was that they were both very glad,

and content with eachother and never became sad.

Letter of Life

Lauren Farello

Her misguided feet

Pat the sand below

As a refreshing mist

Calms her confused thoughts.

Suddenly,

The tides rise in her eyes

And she looks up

At the warm colors in the sky.

She kneels on the sand

Below the crashing foam

And aligns her hands with the heavens

As she begins whispering

To the deserted sea.

“Dear God,

Please forgive me.

I know that my choices before

Have led me to where I am today,

But please give me one more chance.

I will change my ways.

I will do the right thing.

But please, God, send me a sign.

Anything to lead me in the right direction.”

An unknown force

Lifts her to her feet

Toward a piece of trash in the sand.

A Bottle.

With a Message.

The perfectly arranged

Glass bottle seemed to be waiting

For a troubled teenage girl to pick it up.

Her trembling hands

Reached down to receive the

Secret to a better life.

“Dear Sarah,

I am sorry.

I’m sorry because of the way you are treating yourself,

and because of the way that I have treated you.

I know that you are struggling right now,

and I wanted you to know that I am here for you.

I just wish I could go back in time and talk to you.

I should have been there for you when you needed it the most.

I will never forgive myself for that.

Sarah, you don’t know how sorry I am that this is happening.

I just hope that you can find it in your heart to trust me,

and try to explain to me what is going on.

Just remember that you are in control of your life,

and when you feel like you can’t,

it is time to go to those you love the most for help.

I love you with all of my heart.

Your cousin”

The girl holds

The tear streaked letter with

Heartbroken eyes,

Knowing that the letter was

Written in the heart of a true friend.

Dawn broke as she

Took in the golden rays of life.

A new day.

A new person.

Ready to change her life.

Leaving behind much more

Than just footprints.

The Boy

By, Timothy Nunez

The boy ran to the woods.

He ran so fast he did not care where he was.

He eventually became tired.

He eventually became lost.

He looked to his left,

he looked to his right,

he looked forwards,

he looked backwards,

lost.

The boy was lost.

The boy could not find his way home.

He was scared.

Time grew later, and later.

It was dark until the boy began to think,

think about what he has done,

think about where he is,

think about how far he has traveled.

The boy could not think of anything,

and the boy never returned home.

Why can't we be enough?

By Sophie Leahy

Each night we hear her cry.

Each night she lets him lie.

She’s too distracted to care for us

So we try not to make a fuss

Why can’t we just be enough?

Now he has to pack his stuff

We want to know what’s going on

How long will Dad be gone?

I hope it’s not too long this time

Then I’ll have to come up with another rhyme

Each night we still hear her cry

But this time she won’t let him lie.

Bob

By Keira De Nicola

There once was a girl named Jane,

She had this problem that caused her a lot of pain.

She liked this boy named Bob and he didn’t even know her name.

She thought this was pretty lame.

She would see him everyday

If he’d glance at her for a split second, she’d turn away.

A part of her was shy,

But she didn’t know why!

Then one day, she’s walking in the hall,

When all of a sudden, she takes a fall.

Her books scatter to the ground,

Looking up, this is what she found,

Bob starring down at her with a helping hand,

He helps her up so that she can stand.

Gazing into his eyes she can’t find the words to speak,

Thinking that whatever she says, she will probably sound like a freak.

Finally managing to say the word “Thanks” she lowers her head

Then what Bob replied next almost made her drop dead,

“You’re welcome Jane,” glancing over his shoulder as he turned and walked away.

At that moment Jane was having the very BEST day.

Struggling Day by Day

By: Carolina Paredes

So many struggling people in the world,

Make bad decisions which make their life a swirl.

Never have been heavenly blessed,

Because of the long and profound quest.

She who is not as lucky to wake up in the street,

Thinking what her children are going to eat.

She will do anything to fill them and live better,

But she feels as if she’s restrained with heavy fetters.

She isn’t lucky and doesn’t get a job,

So she is offered to sell drugs by a mob.

Thinking finally she’s living in peace,

She gets caught red-handed by the police.

Telling her side of the story but nothing is acceptable.

Saying to her-self, “Maybe I shouldn’t be so susceptible.”

Now repenting and in the jail for the rest of her years,

While she fears for the protection of her children, she sheds her tears.

The Descent

By Jesse Humphries

I step out into the cool crisp air,

The snow blinding me.

It’s my first time but I don’t care

Even though it’s hard to see.

I have skied before,

But this is not the same.

Snowboarding is so much more,

I’m trying a new winter game.

I step up to the chair lift,

I’m so nervous and tense.

My balance starts to shift,

But I regain my gravity sense.

The view from the top of the hill

Is higher than I had thought.

I just wish I had more skill,

And remembered what I had been taught.

Exciting, thrilling, fast, fun

Until I land flat on my face.

The great feelings are soon done.

Why didn’t I slow down my pace.

I’m at the base of the slope,

There’s a great story to tell,

But I won’t give up hope,

Because I think I did quite well.

The Boy and The Girl

By Max Mendoza

He walked fast and swiftly

He watched her as they passed

His eyes glued to hers as if he would never see her again

This happened everyday

Same time, same place

This point in the day made his day, everyday

One day he said hi

She acknowledged and said hi back

Finally, conversation

He was excited

He was getting somewhere with her

They started talking

One day he bundled up enough courage to ask her something

That something was a date

He wanted her for so long

Now was his time to shine

Now was the moment he dreamed of

Now was the moment

He asked her the next day

He was nervous

His heart pounding so fast

He asked her almost stuttering

With a smile she said yes

They hugged each other with open arms

The first date came and went well

They talked over dinner

He picked up the check

Everything went smoothly

Then the night ended with a kiss

Planning

by Valerie Fernandez

Life was just way too easy,

at least for the first ten years.

The hard times after that, made her queasy,

and woke up her sudden fears.

Elementary, made it through,

junior high, made it through,

the times got tougher,

and the challenges only grew.

'06 finally came,

and she entered into high school.

It just was not the same

she was a small fish in a large pool.

Opportunities for clubs,

and events popped up,

she wanted a gallon,

but only got a cup.

It became too much,

everything kept piling,

no more time for double-dutch,

just mental notes to keep filing.

Planning became a major thing,

especially for a particular event.

Now that she was turning 15.

No turning back, no time for repent.

Her philosophy:

To make the best of her time,

to live life at its fullest,

having fun was not a crime,

even if it meant being shoeless.

LOVE

By Nikolas Kessler

There once was a boy named Dayne,

He was not very confident nor strong,

If he did not tell her his feeling it would drive him insane,

He though he should just tell her, or maybe he was wrong.

Day by day he watched her walk pass,

He walked past her like he didn't even notice her,

It was hard to not acknowledge her in class,

To say his feeling out loud was what he would prefer.

Finally the day that was going to tell her,

I am just going to go up to her and tell her Dayne said,

This is the only thing he wanted to conqour,

There she was straight ahead.

He walked nervously and slow approaching her,

he saw her look as he fell to the ground,

tripping to the ground is not what he wanted to occur

The best thing to do now was to just turn around.

Just the girl I'm Looking for

 by:Keely Stevenson

There once was a boy named charley

he was the nice boy that walked with a prance

He liked this girl named Carly

She would pass him in the hall without even a glance

Staring at her from afar

As beautiful as a single red rose

and then he thought,"we are to far apart,

i am the dorky guy and she is the popular girl."

As she struck a pose

she noticed a boy

with a cute buton nose

looking at her,

she gave him this look of annoy

but deep inside

she thought

he finally noticed me.

i might have a chance with this guy

then the next day at school

the boy who walked with a prance

worked up his courage

and asked the girl to go to the Uder the Sea dance

her heart stopped

she was so excited

she couldn't think of the words

she just stood there

Charley turned his back to her

walking away

she chased him down the hall and said

"of course i will go with you"

 The Game

by Brandon Goodreau

The game begins with two men jumping for the ball

One team controls the ball as the other

Plays defense

The game goes on with the lead changing

Back and Forth

The crowd is in the game screaming and yelling

Who will win?

Nobody can tell

the game is winding down

And both teams are playing well

One man drives and puts the ball in the hoop

Now the other team drives and misses

Is the game over

No there is a foul

Now Johnson is at the line

His team down by one

He misses the first free throw

But another one could tie it up

The crowd is on their feet

Cheering for the home town superstar

He starts his routine

And then goes for the shot

the crowd yells

They think they have won

But it hits the rim

And out it goes

The other team has one

A hero no more

He has lost the game

No more will he be talked about

And as the tears roll down his cheek

The crowd walks out
