Opportunities
by Cooper Ehlers
Opportunity is a second chance,
A second chance to be able to do,
Anything again at a second glance,
To retry anything that you want to,
If those chances go squandered or they fail,
Those willing to give an opportunity,
Won’t ever again if you let sail,
The thought won’t occur through the community,
An opportunity was given to me,
I have let myself become distracted,
All my thoughts have gone as if they were free,
My opportunity was retracted,
And now I think of how to recover,
I will never think to give another.

The Truth
By Ryan Denman
I have a great secret you do not know,
It is large, amazing, and beautiful
I cannot tell you but I want to so.
I don't like secrets, they make me woeful.
Truths are hard to tell for they are hidden,
With many voyages made to find them.
Sometimes you will find the truth was ridden,
And you wish to look and look for them.
A truth can be bad a truth can be good.
It can sometimes get caught in your throat.
The worst is when it is not understood.
This bad crime, most times, seems to get my goat.
A truth I contain you will do not know,
As long as I live I will keep this so.
Summer
by craddock
I feel the ocean's solid salty breeze,
The sun sets across the fierce blue ocean,
The wind picks up pollen, I urge to sneeze.
Im out fishing getting sick from the motion.
Skating all day and staying out all night,
Don't really care about the paths I take,
You don't determine whats wrong or right,
Its 3 PM and I still have to wake.
Sun come and beat on me turns me fire red,
When day turns to night I am so tired,
I come into my cold room and drop dead.
Wake up and drink a coke now I'm wired
The best season of the year is summer,
And Winter, Spring, and Fall are a bummer.
Procrastination
By: Carolina Paredes
I seriously do not want to fail,
But due to this assignment, I just may.
I can’t focus. My train of thought’s wrecked.
Unfortunately, I’ll be up all night.
Maybe I’ll go outside and get some air.
This homework really drives me so crazy.
I’m thinking to myself, “Why should I care?”
“It’s really not that hard.” And after all
Of the all-nighters that I’ve pulled before,
I should feel by now, I would be a pro.
I need caffeine. I’ll go to the town’s store
Because I just can’t sit still. And although
This is procrastination at its best,
When I am done at last, I won’t be stressed.
The Essence of Winter
Lauren Farello
The shining blanket heals my gnawing pain
As the sun reflects a pearly splendor
Like bright sparkles from a white sugar cane
The things only my own heart could render
The chilly breeze blows twinkles all around
What a beauty to see their calm presence
The fall peacefully and without a sound
Only believers can feel their essence
A smile spreads as an angel is formed
And another when Frosty’s hat is placed
How can someone measure the hearts it warmed?
From those whose happiness has been embraced
It slowly starts to melt as spring arrives
Still not knowing it changed so many lives
Late at Night
By Max Mendoza
And I ask, “Can I have another glass?”
I have been drinking coffee way too long
Tomorrow I have to go and teach class
The clock just hit one with a loud ding dong
I’m thinking of when I am going home
I am very exhausted and tired
All I have is a wallet and a comb
With all of this I hope I don’t get fired
The bartender asks, “Why are you still up?”
I respond with a, “I do not know why.”
He asks me, “Want me to fill up your cup?”
I respond with a “No” and a “Good-bye”
As I drive on home to go into bed
I lay down and the pillow hits my head
The Moon
By Jesse Humphries
Some day i would like to go the moon
And be able to look down on the Earth
While up there, I would not eat with a spoon
But I would look down on the cities like Perth
My footprints would be imprinted in dust
They would stay there forever, never leave
For my children to see would be a must
What a great honor that I would achieve.
The moon used to seem a far away place
Till' Neal Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin walked on it
We beat other countries in the moon race
If I went to the moon I'd be well known
Famous on Earth, yet in space so alone.
This Small Town
By: Sophie Leahy
Every once in a while I look around
And see what a pretty town we live in
I realize the meaning is more profound
Where the tiniest mishap is a sin.
Now and then it’s nice to be protected
What we really want is to be released
Even though we might not be respected
Then I won’t be trapped here like a tamed beast
All we can do now is try to have fun
We will make friends with the unexpected
But because we’re stuck here we won’t have stunned
Until our lives have been resurrected
This is a place that thrills me and bores me
Just don’t think about it that is the key
Stay True to Yourself
By Nicole Bartels
When everything around you is changing,
you must continue to still be yourself.
Although you may start to be exchanging
goodbyes to old friends and maybe himself.
You shouldn't make the bad choices they do,
stray away from the crowd and make your own.
Do not be more like them and less like you,
stay true to yourself and stay in your zone.
Don't do things you don't want to do, ever.
You will look back and realize your mistakes.
When they try to persuade you, say never.
Just always remember not to be fake.
'Cuz in the end, you will start to regret,
not being who you really want to be yet.
The Garden
By Emilija Stojanovic
Beautiful flowers surrounding the house,
The calming scent of flowers all around,
birds and insects, and a little mouse,
In the garden, I hear a peaceful sound.
All of the neighbors enjoy stopping by.
The yellow birds sitting in the tall tree.
The rays of light coming from the blue sky.
The faint buzzing sound of a bumblebee.
Flowers in different colors and shades,
All different tones of red and yellow.
As the sun goes down the light slowly fades.
The pond in the garden still and mellow.
The beautiful garden is filled with bliss,
it's beauty and calmness is hard to miss.
Payday by Valerie Fernandez
Once payday has arrived, you hit the mall.
Fat pocket with a wallet stuffed with cash.
Your friends all meeting there to have a ball.
Buying clothes to wear to that next big bash.
You have spotted those brand new Frankie B's.
You have also seen the scary price tag.
But they're cute and even have bumblebees.
Too bad, so sad, oh well, no time to lag.
Cannot forget the Coach purse, real, not fake,
or the bright red stilettos for the dance.
Before you leave there's one last stop to make,
but there's that guy you like, he took a glance.
Just walk over there, say hi, and be brave.
Start a conversation, that's what you crave.
Homework
By, Timothy Nunez
Homework should not be aloud in our school.
Homework sometimes keeps us up past midnight.
No one in our school thinks homework is cool.
We do homework so much we lose our sight.
Homework is always extremely boring.
Nobody would ever want to do it.
Instead of homework I would be soaring.
If I do homework I will have a fit.
My parents make me do it by cajole.
I don't want to do homework anymore.
I just want to hit my head with a pole.
For whom am I doing this homework for?
Am I doing this homework for myself.
If not then I will leave it on my shelf.
The beautiful ocean
Gazing at the scenery, my oh my,
Something this beautiful cannot be real,
Starring up as I look into the sky,
Peaceful and calm this is how I’m feeling.
Watching as the waves crash against the shore,
I hear the boom and splash as they each hit,
Hearing these sounds are just the ocean’s roar,
Not wanting to leave, all I do is sit.
Gazing and watching the sea is clever,
I want this moment to last forever,
Teenage Crush
by Kaitlyn Hafdell
A teenage girl's first crush is...well, crushing.
Her dody isn't herself shivering, shaking, blushing,
Weak, tormented, sick, and going blind.
And why? Because some guy might look herway,
Then cast his eyes as quickly to the ground;
Some special one, for reasons she can't say,
Whose voice makes her feel faint when he's around.
But now my crush on you has been returned,
And so the two of us stand on some brink:
It can't be love so young, and yet we've learned
Love does its will, no mater what we think.
Slowly, slowly now--we musnt't rush:
Let's enjoy this first sweet teenage crush.
My Favorite Athlete
By Nikolas Kessler
Gretzky, greatest hockey player on Earth,
He holds record for most goals in season.
No goalie between pipes even in Perth,
Practicing every day was his reason.
He has a good slap shot and wrist shot too,
He was the king of hockey, the great one.
The goalie could not stop it with his shoe,
Watching him made hockey a lot of fun.
Gretzky’s shooting and skating were his things,
Every goalie Gretzky faced had no chance.
Skating so fast it looked like he had wings,
He was strong and determined just like Lance.
The goalies he faced were all powerless,
Everyone will remember his greatness.
